National Lake Conservation Programme (NLCP)

  • The National Lake Conservation Programme (NLCP) of Govt. of India offers an unprecedented opportunity in conserving the water bodies in urban areas. The State Govt would like to utilize this opportunity in conserving the precious lakes of the state in phases under NLCP. It is expected to result in improvement of Lake Environment and add to the aesthetic beauty.
  • The objective of the scheme is to restore and conserve the polluted and degraded urban lakes of the country. The activities under NLCP includes prevention of pollution from point source by intercepting, diverting, treating the polluted loads entering the lakes, lake cleaning, catchments area treatment and lake beautification, public awareness etc.
  • The State Govt therefore has proposed to undertake restoration / improvement of the following lakes in the first phase

      I Lake Anasagar, Ajmer
      II Lake Sarovar. Pushkar
      III Lake Nakki, Mt. Abu
      IV Lake Pichola, Udaipur
      V Lake Fateh Sagar Udaipur
    Moreover, specific financial commitment to bear the State Government share of 30% of the total projects cost for each project has been submitted to NRCD, MoEF, GoI. The DPR of 5 lakes have been prepared and sent to GoI for approval. The total proposed outlay to be spent on these 5 lakes is Rs. 22500.00 lacs.
    Under this scheme two projects of Annasagar lake, Ajmer (Rs. 15.28 cr) and Pushkar Lake (Rs. 48.36 cr) has been sanctioned. The projects related to Nakki lake, Mt. Abu and Fateh Sagar lake, Udaipur are likely to be approved during this financial year, 2008-09. There is a token provision in budget, 2008-09 for this scheme.
